A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for mountain areas in southern Oregon from 4:00 p.m. Wednesday through 4:00 a.m. Friday above 3,500 feet.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said snow and blowing snow is expected above 3,500 feet. Total snow accumulations of 10 to 21 inches are forecast. Winds are forecast to gust as high as 40 miles per hour.

The Advisory area applies to the southern and south-central Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains including Crater Lake and Diamond Lake, along with Josephine County and eastern Curry County.

Forecasters said travel could be difficult to impossible. Snowfall rates of 5 to 8 inches every 12 hours are expected.

Drivers should slow down and allow extra time to reach their destination. Carry tire chains and be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities.
