Sutherlin Police charged a man following an alleged elude incident Sunday evening.
An SPD report said at around 8:30 p.m. 35-year old Christopher Bebeau was known to have warrants and was observed driving in the area of West Central Avenue and Fort McKay Road. Bebeau was stopped in the 1600 block of West Central. Upon being told he was under arrest for warrants, the man reportedly shifted the vehicle into drive and sped away at a high rate of speed.
Bebeau was later found to be intoxicated and allegedly had extremely poor driving which caused him to crash his vehicle into multiple ditches over a quarter of a mile. His vehicle eventually became stuck in a ditch but the man was still reportedly uncooperative. A window on his vehicle was broken, and the suspect was tased and taken into custody.
Bebeau sustained injuries during the crash and was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center where he was admitted. The man was in good condition at last check, according to a hospital spokesperson. He was cited and released on charges of attempting to elude in a vehicle, reckless driving, resisting arrest, and a felony count of DUII-alcohol.
