The HIV Alliance will recognize World AIDS Day on Friday December 1st.
A release from the non-profit said founded in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day. Now recognized every year, the day honors those impacted by the HIV/AIDS epidemic while looking forward to a future without the virus.
HIV Alliance was founded in Eugene in 1994 after several HIV/AIDS organizations merged around the mission to support individuals living with HIV and prevent new HIV infections. HIV Alliance now serves more than 1,200 people living with and at-risk for HIV across 32 counties.
In coordination with several community partners, HIV Alliance will be collaborating on events in Roseburg, Eugene, Salem, Medford and Coos Bay. In Roseburg, a ceremony will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Umpqua Unitarian Universalist Congregation at 2167 Northwest Watters Street in Roseburg. There will be a name reading ceremony and awards for local community leaders. Drinks and snacks will be provided.
