On Monday, human rights attorney Will Lathrop, filed for the office of Oregon Attorney General as a Republican.

A release said Lathrop began campaigning at the start of the year, and has raised $300,000 so far, as he has campaigned in 25 of Oregon’s 36 counties. Lathrop has earned the endorsement of over 70 elected leaders and law enforcement members from every corner of the state.

Lathrop said, “I am running for attorney general because I have the vision and experience to lead our state towards a future with safe, healthy and thriving communities”. Lathrop said, “It’s painful for me to watch the state that I love suffer. Oregon is a wounded beauty – a beautiful state marred by crime and addiction. I represent a dawn of new leadership that will bring lasting change and ensure a safer, healthier future for Oregonians”.

A release said Lathrop is a sixth generation Oregonian who has spent his career fighting for victims of crime and abuse, rebuilding criminal justice systems, and taking on corrupt politicians and local governments.  His resume includes nine years as a deputy district attorney in Yamhill and Marion counties. He also worked for a global human rights organization, International Justice Mission, in Uganda. Lathrop later led an anti-human trafficking operation in Ghana, West Africa.
