Since the holiday falls on the weekend, Friday is the government observance of Veterans’ Day. That means most federal, state, county, and city offices are closed. However, regular mail will be delivered Friday but not on Saturday. Schools are not in session. Most banks and credit unions will be open. Some professional offices are closed.

Formerly known as Armistice Day, Veterans Day became a holiday in 1954 when Congress passed a bill that was signed by President Eisenhower.
