Wildlife Safari has announced the grand opening of its new Gibbon House, which is in the parks drive thru.

A Safari release said it is the home to two white-cheeked gibbons: Thani, a 14-year old male, and Sunisa, a 27-year old female.

Development and Marketing Director Taylor Holeman said the Gibbon House offers its inhabitants a spacious, stimulating environment with exciting climbing structures. Holeman said the project is a testament to Wildlife Safari’s commitment to animal welfare and conservation. Holeman said the specially designed enclosure, “provides the gibbons with a safe and comfortable space to live, thrive, and exhibit their natural behaviors”.

Wildlife Safari Village Lead Malia Chism said, “The new house provides Thani and Sunisa with an environment that is tailored to their needs and allows them to flourish”. Chism said, “It’s heartwarming to see them enjoying their space and even vocalizing together every morning, often referred to as singing a duet”.

The release said the project would not have been possible without the support of the local community. The game park held fundraisers at Two Shy Brewing in Roseburg. Grocery Outlet in Winston had a successful “round-up” campaign which allowed shoppers to make small contributions which collectively made a significant impact.

Wildlife Safari Executive Director Dan Van Slyke said, “We are grateful to the community for their generous support, It’s heartwarming to see the community come together to help us create a better home for our gibbons”.
