A $6 million dollar bond measure in the Oakland School District appears to have gone down to defeat.

Preliminary Unofficial Results from the Douglas County Clerk’s Office show 55 percent of voters saying no to the question while nearly 45 percent approved of the proposal. The district submitted the measure to pay for school renovations and build a new gymnasium. The apparent failure also means the district loses out on a $4 million State of Oregon grant that would have helped to pay for the projects.

883 ballots were cast in the special district election. Clerk Daniel Loomis said that is a participation rate of just over 32.5 percent of voters in the district. After the 7-day postmark period that allows more ballots to come in, Unofficial Final Results will be posted at 5:00 p.m. on November 15th.
