The Umpqua Valley League of Women Voters will present a program regarding Opportunity Youth, on November 14th in the South Umpqua Room of the Roseburg Public Library.

Opportunity Youth is a term used to describe young people between the ages of 16 and 24 years old who are deemed “disconnected” from school and work. That means they are either not attending school or are not employed. A League release said Douglas County has one of the highest rates of Opportunity Youth in Oregon.

Phoenix Charter School Executive Director Thomas McGregor will share information about the issue and his thoughts about why young people in the county are struggling. The meeting is part of the League’s fall speaker series, “Learning About Community Leaders”.
