A Medford area transient was jailed and a stolen vehicle was recovered by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.

A DCSO report said just before 5:30 p.m. 21-year old Sergio Diaz-Garcia was called in as a trespasser after he allegedly refused to leave a business in the 200 block of Southwest Fifth Street in Canyonville. A caller said the suspect had been asked to leave approximately 8 times. Diaz-Garcia was with a vehicle determined to be stolen after several witnesses called dispatchers.

When deputies arrived, Diaz-Garcia had walked off. He was located at a nearby café where he was taken into custody without incident. Diaz-Garcia was confirmed to be the person suspected of taking the vehicle from a Medford location earlier in the day.

He was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, being in possession of a stolen vehicle and for second-degree criminal trespass. Diaz-Garcia was detained on $50,000 bail.
