4th District Congresswoman Val Hoyle has reacted to Representative Mike Johnson’s election as House Speaker on Wednesday.

Hoyle said, “In today’s vote for the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, House Republicans chose Rep. Mike Johnson, a known election denier, opponent of reproductive freedom, and fervent supporter of former President Trump. While many of my Democratic colleagues and I were open to supporting a Republican candidate for speaker who stood for the core principle of upholding our democracy, Mike Johnson’s record unfortunately represents more of the same: right-wing extremism that will undermine our democracy and distract from the bipartisan work that Congress should be doing for the American people”. Hoyle said, “The House should be led by someone who prioritizes the well-being of all Americans over partisan politics, which is why I proudly voted for House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries to be Speaker”.
