On Tuesday, State Representative Boomer Wright announced his bid for re-election.
Wright represents Oregon House District 9, which stretches around Coos, Douglas and Lane counties. It encompasses communities that include Coos Bay, Charleston, North Bend, Lakeside, Reedsport, Scottsburg, Florence and several others.
Wright served as an educator and administrator in the district for over 30 years. He currently serves as the vice chair of the House Education Committee and was recently appointed to the Governor’s Early Literacy Council. Wright has served in the House since 2021.
Wright said, “It has been one of the greatest honors of my life representing the place I grew up, spent my professional career, and raised my family. The environment of Oregon’s State Capitol has proven to be more challenging, and at times disheartening, than I would have ever expected.” Wright said, “I am proud of the work my colleagues and I have accomplished – but there is more to be done”.
A release said Wright’s most notable accomplishments since taking office include:
*Chief sponsoring legislation protecting the rights of landowners – House Bill 3362
*Sponsoring legislation to bring adequate, regional representation to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Commission structure – House Bill 3086
*Sponsoring legislation allowing limited land use exemptions within the jurisdiction of the International Port of Coos Bay for channel improvements while preserving environmental standards – House Bill 3382
*Securing funding for the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay’s channel modification
*Securing funding for Southwest Oregon Community College’s Student Uplift Project
Representative Boomer Wright lives in Reedsport.
