City of Roseburg Public Works crews will soon begin their free fall leaf collection service for homeowners.
A City release said from Monday, October 30th through Friday January 5th, the Public Works Department will provide the service inside the city limits. Dump truck loads of free leaves will be available to those needing mulch.
Public Works crews follow a cyclical, systematic route to help with leaf disposal and to ensure that leaf collection can be provided in an effective, cost-controlled program.
Roseburg Design/Construction Manager Ryan Herinckx said, “The program helps keep leaves out of our storm drain pipes and the Public Works Department is happy to provide this free service to residents”.
Weekday pickups begin in the Laurelwood neighborhood west of downtown the first week, then move west to the Harvard Avenue area. From there, collections move in a clockwise direction, ending in the Mill-Pine Historic District.
Each cycle through Roseburg’s neighborhoods takes about a month, depending on the quantities of leaves picked up. That route is repeated throughout the roughly two-month collection program. Residents can see pickup route updates on the Public Works Department leaf pickup webpage: https://www.cityofroseburg.org/departments/public-works/leaf-program, or call 492-6730.
Residents who want to use the service must pile leaves neatly on the edge of their property or in the street in front of their property and away from the curb prior to pick up. Other tips for the free leaf collection:
*Make sure leaf piles are free of debris and not piled near parked vehicles
*Keep street gutters, ditches, bike lanes and catch basins free of leaves
*Public Works crews will not pick up any items except leaves that have been raked and piled up
*Residents are responsible for any hazards they create for others by the placement of their leaves
*Residents must keep drainage structures clear of leaves during rainstorms until leaves can be picked up
The Public Works Department can deliver dump truck loads of leaves free to anyone within the city limits depending on scheduling and available quantities. The minimum amount that can be delivered is about 8 cubic yards, or roughly one dump truck load. Sign up to get leaves delivered by contacting the Public Works Department: pwd@cityofroseburg.org
