Roseburg Police jailed a man following a reported shoplifting incident on Friday.

An RPD report said at 7:00 p.m. officers contacted 34-year old Cody Van Vlack after he was detained by loss prevention at Goodwill in the 2400 block of Northwest Stewart Parkway, for a theft of a $10 pair of pants. Van Vlack was allegedly found to be in possession of a violation amount of fentanyl and a Smith and Wesson handgun, which he had concealed in his backpack.

Van Vlack is a convicted felon and admitted to stealing the backpack from a nearby park, knowing that the firearm was inside.

He was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, first and third-degree counts of theft, and carrying a concealed weapon. He was cited for the fentanyl. Van Vlack was detained without bail.
