Tuesday evening, Representative Jeff Helfrich of Hood River was selected by House Republicans to serve as their new Leader.

A release from the Oregon House Republican Caucus said also elected to the leadership team were Representative Mark Owens of Crane as Deputy Leader and Kim Wallan of Medford as Whip.

Helfrich said, “It is both an honor and privilege to be chosen to lead our caucus”. Helfrich said, “Oregon is in crisis. Residents are leaving because they can’t afford housing, they feel unsafe on our city streets and their taxes are increasing. Inaction or failed action only makes the situation worse. The status quo must change”.

Helfrich replaces Representative Vikki Breese-Iverson of Prineville, who announced her resignation on Thursday.

Helfrich served in the United States Air Force during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm before spending 25 years as a sergeant with the Portland Police Bureau.
