A Sutherlin man was jailed for DUII and reckless driving, following a single vehicle crash early Saturday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 4:20 a.m. a deputy responded to a possible rollover wreck in the 15000 block of Old Highway 99 North near Sutherlin. When the deputy arrived, he could see a sedan lying on the driver’s side and partially on the railroad tracks. The vehicle was unoccupied. Another officer observed a man walking south on the highway in the area of the crash.

The man allegedly had a strong odor of alcohol coming from him. The 58-year old consented to standard field sobriety tests but could not perform some of them. He was transported to the Sutherlin Police Department and his vehicle was towed. When asked to provide a breath sample, the suspect refused. A search warrant was applied for. The man ultimately gave a blood sample and a breath sample. His breath sample reportedly returned with a blood alcohol level of 0.11, 6 hours after the crash.

The man was detained without bail. He was released on Sunday.
