A Flood Watch is in effect from Sunday afternoon through Monday evening for parts of the Umpqua Valley and the central and southern Oregon Coast.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said the first moderate to heavy rain event of the season will arrive between late Sunday and Monday. While this rainfall will be mostly beneficial coming out of the dry season, there is a risk that moderate to heavy rainfall could produce debris flows on this season’s burn scars.

The Flood Watch includes central Douglas county, Josephine County, and eastern Curry County and applies to the burn scars in the Tyee Ridge Complex, the Flat Fire, the Anvil Fire, and the Smith River Complex.

Forecasters said debris flows may result in road closures as well as flooding of creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Storm drains and ditches may become may become clogged with debris.
