The second annual Make a Difference Day – Douglas County is next month and organizers are seeking volunteers interested in working on community projects that have been identified for the October 28th day of service.

Make a Difference Day is a nationally recognized day of service that is held on the fourth Saturday of every October. The local event was organized by a group of community service leaders. The Make a Difference Day Douglas County Planning Committee’s goal is to promote volunteerism throughout the county.

Volunteers are needed for about a dozen projects, most of which include landscaping and beautification work at local schools and nonprofits. The event’s primary sponsors include United Community Action Network, Thrive Umpqua, Greater Douglas United Way, Roseburg Public Schools, Sunrise Enterprises and JustServe.

Make a Difference Day – Douglas County’s mission is to build support and opportunity for volunteers throughout the county, strengthening the community and making the county a healthier and safer place to live, work and play.

Committee chairperson Tim Juett said, “Events such is Make a Difference Day bless our communities more than we know”. Juett said, “Such service spreads unity and respect among all peoples, across religion, belief, ethnicity, economic standing and nationality. It develops self-investment and pride in community. It enhances personal joy and fulfillment”.

Volunteers may choose a project to work on during a four-hour shift from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on October 28th. A list of projects and sign-up instructions can be found online at: https://makeadifferenceday.org/
