Good progress on mop up near homes has reduced the number of structures threatened on the Tyee Ridge Complex northwest of Roseburg.
The fire is listed at 7,922 acres with 52 percent containment. 1,163 people are assigned to the fires.
An update from Northwest Incident Management Team 3 said all Level 2 (Be Set) evacuation notices have been removed by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office due to continued progress on the fire. Level 1 (Be Ready) evacuation notices remain for some areas.
The mop up stage of wildland firefighting involves extinguishing or removing burning material along or near control lines, felling hazard trees, or moving logs to limit still burning materials that could ignite nearby fuels. Hazard trees are standing dead trees that create safety concerns for personnel.
Handheld and drone infrared cameras verify mop-up operations to ensure no hot spots remain near structures or along control lines. Night infrared missions are being used to prioritize day-shift operations.
Maintaining containment prior to anticipated higher temperatures later this week will help reduce the chance of increased fire activity. Crews continue mopping up 200 feet into burnt areas around the fire perimeter and 300 feet into burnt areas around structures.
Smoke may be more visible with warmer temperatures and reduced humidity. Vegetation and fuels in the interior of the fire will smolder and be consumed.
Hubbard Creek Road is open to local residents only. Traffic delays may be experienced.
