Roseburg Police charged a man on multiple drug charges after a disturbance on Monday night, but medical issues sent the man to the hospital instead of the Douglas County Jail.

An RPD report said at approximately 10:45 p.m. officers responded to the 500 block of Southeast Stephens Street where 36-year old Sixto Martinez was allegedly assaulting a victim. Multiple witnesses saw the incident but both Martinez and the victim denied the allegations. He was taken into custody and transported to Corrections. Staff at the jail searched Martinez and allegedly located 57.85 grams of fentanyl and 2.26 grams of methamphetamine on his person. Martinez had reportedly swallowed drugs prior to officers contacting him and had a medical episode during the booking process. He was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center, where he was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit. He is listed in serious condition at last check, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Martinez is facing charges that include second-degree disorderly conduct, attempted delivery and unlawful possession of a Schedule 2 controlled substance, and for unlawful possession of methamphetamine.
