The Umpqua National Forest has lowered Public Use Restrictions and the Industrial Fire Precaution Level to Level 2, effective immediately.

A UNF release said the Fire Danger Rating will remain at Very High. The lowering of these restrictions is due to a change in conditions with higher humidity, lower temperatures, more rain and lower temperatures in the coming days. These restrictions are continuously reassessed and could change as conditions dictate.

Under Level 2 PUR restrictions:

*Campfires must be in Forest Service constructed fire rings or fireplaces in designated sites. Gas stoves are allowed.

*Smoking is restricted to enclosed vehicles, watercraft and areas that are clear of flammable material of at least a three-foot diameter.

*Operating a combustion engine is prohibited except on a motor vehicle on major roads or parking areas or on roads designated for open motorized travel based on the Forest Motor Vehicle Use Map

Restrictions also apply in wilderness areas. The use of non-industrial battery or electric power equipment is exempt from these restrictions.

Under Level 2 IFPL restrictions:

The following may operate only between 8:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.

*Power saws except at loading sites

*Cable yarding, blasting, welding or cutting of metal.
