TYEE RIDGE COMPLEX OVER 1,800 ACRES

August 27, 2023 1:00 p.m.

The Tyee Ridge Complex is over 1,800 acres as of Sunday morning.

An update from the Oregon Department of Forestry Incident Management Team 1 and the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office Red Team said crews saw active fire growth on the Cougar Creel and Rattlesnake Ridge fires, which grew together Saturday night. There was also very active fire, including uphill runs on the Lighthouse 3 and 4 fires. Overnight OSFM crews provided protection from active fires to homes near the fires. There has been no loss to any homes or structures to date. There is potential for significant fire growth on some fires over the next couple of days. One new fire start found Saturday night was added to the complex.

Challenges facing firefighters include steep terrain, limited road access, warm weather, heavy smoke and extremely dry conditions. Ten helicopters have been dropping water on the fires in support of ground forces, but heavy smoke and low visibility has limited use of fixed-wing aircraft. Weather over the fire is expected to remain in the high 70s to low 80s with light winds Sunday with continued heavy smoke.

Firefighters and equipment will continue arriving Sunday from around Oregon and nationally to support forces on the complex, which is about twenty miles northwest of Roseburg.

A total of 73 residences under Level 3 Go Now! evacuation orders and 31 are at Level 2 Be Set. An estimated 125 people have been evacuated from the Hubbard Creek Road area west of Umpqua. A Red Cross shelter for evacuees is at Oakland Elementary School on Northeast Spruce Street in Oakland. To shelter livestock, contact the Douglas County Fairgrounds at 957-7010. Companion pets can be taken to Saving Grace Pet Adoption Center in Winchester.

Evacuation areas remain unchanged. To view the current evacuation map, go to www.dcso.com/evacuations.

The Tyee Ridge Complex will hold a community meeting Monday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Roseburg Country Club on Garden Valley Road.

472 people are assigned to the fires. They are zero percent contained.
