A motorcyclist died in a two-vehicle crash just west of Roseburg Thursday afternoon.

Lieutenant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said shortly before 4:30 p.m. dispatchers received a report of a possible fatal accident involving a motorcycle in the 4800 block of Old Melrose Road.

O’Dell said deputies responded along with fire and EMS personnel. Deputies determined the operator of the motorcycle had been traveling west at a high rate of speed when his motorcycle collided with a van which was making a left hand turn into a residential driveway. Neither driver had time to avoid the collision.

O’Dell said the motorcyclist was identified as 34-year Justin Maxwell of Roseburg. Maxwell was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the van was not injured in the accident.

DCSO was assisted at the scene by Douglas County Fire District No.2, Umpqua Valley Ambulance, Douglas County Public Works and a tow company.
