A Red Flag Warning remains in effect from 8:00 p.m. Thursday through 11:00 a.m. Friday for the Umpqua Basin and the south-central Oregon coast.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service said that abundant lightning on dry fuels is anticipated Thursday afternoon into early Friday morning.
An Urgent Fire Weather Message said an upper level wave will move into the region from the south Thursday afternoon and into Friday. Thunderstorms are anticipated to pop up across the region with the most impactful activity expected west of the Interstate Five corridor. This area missed out on the beneficial rainfall from Hurricane Hillary remnants and the threat for new fire ignitions is highest in this area.
Any fires that develop have a high probability of spreading rapidly. Abundant lightning can also ignite new fires and strain firefighting resources.
