August 23, 2023 3:15 p.m.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect from 8:00 p.m. Thursday through 11:00 a.m. Friday for the Umpqua Basin and the south-central Oregon coast.

A Fire Weather Message from the National Weather Service said an upper level wave will move into the region from the south on Thursday and Thursday night. Thunderstorms are anticipated to pop up across the region with the most activity along the coast. The threat of new fire ignitions is highest in that location. Other areas across southern Oregon still have the potential to see thunderstorms Thursday through Thursday night.

Any new ignitions may spread rapidly if storms are dry. Thunderstorms will move to the north at around twenty to thirty-five miles per hour. Gusts up to forty-miles per hour. View the hazard area in detail at: https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/map/?wfo=mfr
