Sutherlin Police jailed a man following a series of incidents early Sunday.
An SPD report said at about 2:40 a.m. 23-year old Zachary Smith was contacted and found to be intoxicated, in possession of alcohol and with a protected person in a no contact order out of Coos County, in the 200 block of West Central Avenue.
A Coos County probation officer asked that Smith be detained. When Smith was told that, he fled on foot and was caught, handcuffed and advised of his rights before being searched. Drug paraphernalia was reportedly found. When reaching to open the patrol vehicle door, Smith broke free and escaped a second time, and was captured a second time by force. Medical staff refused to transport Smith as he was allegedly still trying to get loose and escape. Police took Smith to CHI Mercy Medical Center, where he was medically cleared before going to jail.
He was charged with assaulting a public safety officer, second and third-degree counts of escape, resisting arrest, first-degree criminal mischief and for a probation violation. Smith was detained without bail.
