Monday afternoon at approximately 1:10 p.m. crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association responded to a one-tenth of an acre fire located in fell and buck timber in an active logging operation near the 2000 block of Heydon Road in the Melrose area.

DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said upon arrival at the incident, crews found that operators were involved in actively suppressing the fire. Pope said bucket drops from DFPA’s helicopter had the forward spread of the fire knocked down quickly.

By 1:30 p.m., the fire was one hundred percent trailed by the operator and plumbed by the DFPA crews at 2:00 p.m. Mop up was completed later in the afternoon.
