GAZLEY ROAD FIRE BURNS IN CANYONVILLE

Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association and other agencies responded to a confirmed one and a-half acre fire near the 3000 block of Gazley Road in Canyonville.

DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said while on the scene a downed power line was found to be the cause of the moderately moving Gazley Road Fire, located in grass and brush. Pope said ground crews navigated safely around downed lines to quickly stop the forward spread of the fire, while aviation staff was able to knock down the flames that were unable to be reached safely by foot.

By 6:00 p.m. the Gazley Road Fire was ninety-percent mopped up. It was estimated to be cleared by 8:00 p.m. Traffic in the area was impacted as crews worked on the scene.

DFPA was assisted by the Canyonville South Umpqua Fire District, Riddle Fire Protection District, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Cow Creek Police and Douglas County Public Works.
