The Elk Creek Fire burned two and a half acres early Saturday morning.

Information from the Douglas Forest Protective Association and the Tiller Volunteer Fire District said at about 6:30 a.m. crews from DFPA, Tiller, and departments in Days Creek and Milo responded to a reported natural cover fire along the Tiller Trail Highway just over eight miles southeast of Tiller.

The fire was initially reported to be a half-acre in size, burning in grass and brush. Firefighters quickly started getting a hose lay around the fire. With the steep terrain and temperature rising, the fire grew. It was turned over to DFPA in the evening.

No homes or structures were threatened by the Elk Creek Fire. Fire danger remains high in the Douglas District. Complete fire season information is at www.dfpa.net
