Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office cited a Winston man after a reported theft incident Friday night.

A DCSO report said at 9:10 p.m. a deputy responded to the area of Rice Creek Road and Willis Creek Road near Winston after a caller said two men were stealing diesel from one of the dump trucks located near the bridge construction.

The deputy arrived and contacted a 42-year old who was working on a vehicle nearby and claimed to have no knowledge about stealing fuel. The deputy located a five-gallon can overflowing with diesel which was actively coming from a siphon hose that was still attached to a dump truck.

K9 Eros arrived and began an active search eventually locating a 22-year old hiding down the bank near the river. The man ultimately admitted to stealing the diesel after the other man provided the gas cans and said he needed diesel for his truck. The man was cited and released for unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and for third-degree theft.
