Crews are making progress on the Flat Fire, burning near Agness in Curry County.

An update from Northwest Incident Management Team 3 said aerial resources helped reinforce control features along the southern perimeter by dropping retardant east of the Game Lake area on Thursday. Helicopters also dropped buckets of water along the southeast perimeter to moderate fire behavior and slow its progression to the east.

Firefighters took advantage of favorable weather conditions and used firing operations to secure additional control lines along Forest Road 3860 down to the Snow Camp area. Four rappellers were deployed to a small spot fire which is still displaying fire activity off the southeast edge of the main fire.

Firefighters planned to continue burnout operations along Forest Road 3680 Thursday night working south towards Forest Road 402, if conditions allowed. Resources also planned to mop up previously burned areas and extinguish sources of heat further in from control lines across the fire.

The Flat Fire is listed at 23,678 acres and is four percent contained. Flat Fire updates are available at: https://www.facebook.com/flatfireoregon2023
