The Roseburg City Council appointed Tom Michalek to a Ward Three position at its meeting on Monday night.

Michalek will serve through the end of 2024 in the seat recently vacated by Brian Prawitz. Ward 3 includes parts of southwest Roseburg.

In his application, Michalek said he is a life-long resident of Roseburg, who graduated from Oregon State University with a Geology degree. Michalek said for thirty-five years he worked in residential and commercial construction, before retiring. He said two issues of particular interest to him are the development of the local economy and infrastructure, and finding solutions for the unhoused population.

Monday night councilors also interviewed Mike Fieldman, Daniel Endicott, Kevin Wene’, and Thomas Dole. Technical issues prevented them from interviewing candidate Celia Vander Velden virtually.

Councilors approved all the items on their agenda during the meeting. The next council meeting will be Monday, August 14th.
