Two suspects and one victim were taken to the hospital after a lengthy pursuit and an officer involved shooting in Douglas County on Friday.
A Roseburg Police Department release said at about 7:40 a.m. a trooper with Oregon State Police initiated a pursuit of a pickup that had been stolen hours earlier during what was described as “a violent robbery and burglary” in Everett, Washington. The pickup entered the Roseburg area where it eventually went the wrong way on Interstate Five leaving the freeway and coming into the City of Roseburg. The male and female occupants of the pickup stopped in the area of Northeast Fulton Street where they allegedly forcefully stole an SUV from an elderly woman who was driving it.
RPD said OSP located the stolen SUV fleeing south through Roseburg. The vehicle left the city and eventually went to the area of the Melrose Store on Melrose Road. The SUV struck an OSP vehicle at that location, before fleeing southbound.
The male occupant of the pickup allegedly forcefully carjacked a vehicle just south of the Melrose Store. During the carjacking, the male suspect reportedly ran over the owner of the vehicle he stole. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to CHI Mercy Medical Center. The suspect then rammed a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle with the stolen car. The male suspect sustained two gunshot wounds from deputies at this time. He was taken into custody, provided with immediate first aid, then was transported to Mercy.
RPD said the female suspect then continued fleeing southbound in the first stolen vehicle. She was apprehended in the 800 block of Lookingglass Road without incident. This happened after she allegedly attempted to enter an occupied house. The female was transported to Mercy as a precaution due to a report of fentanyl use.
It was later learned that both suspects had active warrants for escape out of Washington State. No law enforcement personnel were injured during the series of events. The Douglas County Major Crimes Team was activated. RPD will lead the investigation of the officer involved shooting.
The release said no further information is available at this time, as this is an active investigation.
