A motorcyclist escaped police on a high-speed chase early Thursday.

A Sutherlin Police report said at 1:15 a.m. an officer spotted the silver street bike going eighty-eighty miles per hour near the south Sutherlin exit on Interstate Five southbound. Two miles later the officer activated his overhead lights and the rider, who was wearing a black helmet, black sweater and blue jeans, looked back at the officer and accelerated.

The pursuit began and the officer stayed with the motorcycle until it reached one hundred twenty-five miles per hour, a mile north of the Winchester exit. The pursuit was terminated at that time.

The officer said he has no idea regarding the identity of the rider. The bike’s license plate was either turned or not there.
