Winston Police are investigating a suspected early morning arson fire that took place Thursday.

Sergeant Mike Miller said shortly before 3:30 a.m. a resident in the 1500 block of Northeast Ronald Street work up to the noise of a loud bang at his front door. Miller said when the man looked at the door, he saw a fire flickering along with smoke. The resident was able to quickly put the fire out.

Miller said when officers arrived on the scene, they could smell the overwhelming odor of gasoline. Officers observed that gas had been poured all along the front siding of the house and near the front door.

Miller said the investigation is ongoing.
