The Moon Mountain Fire, located east of Eugene on Moon Mountain, is fifty percent mopped up, as of Wednesday night.

Public Information Officer Natalie Weber of the Oregon Department of Forestry Western Lane District, said significant progress was made during Wednesday’s dayshift. Weber said four twenty-person crews were able to extinguish hotspots one hundred feet into the fire’s perimeter. Despite hot and windy conditions, none of the remaining hot spots flared up on Wednesday. The fire remains in its footprint of 34.4 acres.

Weber said due to the current status of the fire, Thursday’s day shift will be decreased to thirty personnel, down from one hundred twenty on Wednesday.

Evacuations that had been in place are now lifted. The cause of the Moon Mountain Fire remains under investigation.
