The Moon Mountain Fire, located east of Eugene on Moon Mountain, remained in its 34.4 acres footprint overnight into Wednesday, with extremely limited activity.

Natalie Weber from the Oregon Department of Forestry Western Lane District said of mid-morning Wednesday, there is no active fire on the ground. Weber said firefighters assigned Tuesday night were able to locate and mark 103 hotspots that were still holding heat. Crews are focused on mopping up one hundred feet into the perimeter of the fire paying special attention to identified hot spots.

Nearly one hundred twenty personnel are assigned to the incident, including four twenty person crews that will each be assigned a quarter of the fire. Two engines, two water tenders and a bulldozer are working on the scene. A Type 2 helicopter remains available should it be needed. Weber said while there is very limited smoke coming from the incident, resources have the goal of eliminating any lasting smoke from this fire by the end of the day.

A Red Flag Warning from the National Weather Service is in effect until 11:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Personnel from the Douglas Forest Protective Association are among those assisting ODF with the fire.

The cause of the Moon Mountain Fire remains under investigation.
