CLATSKANIE MAN JAILED, POLICE CHASE ENDS AT STEWART PARK PLAYGROUND

A Clatskanie man was jailed, after attempting to elude police Friday night, in an incident which ended when his pickup got stuck at the Stewart Park playground.

A Roseburg Police report said at 9:40 p.m. officers witnessed a collision between the vehicle and a sedan at the intersection of Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard and Northwest Stewart Parkway. The pickup fled the scene going northbound on Stewart Parkway before cutting through the parking lot of a business nearby. Officers later located the pickup parked at Stewart Park and tried to stop it. The driver, 19-year old Wylee Labart, fled in the vehicle going across the grass next to the pavilion, nearly hitting a group of juveniles that were in the area during the Movies in the Park event.

The report said Labart tried to drive through the playground area, but his pickup got stuck in the soft ground, Labart tried to run from the vehicle but was tackled and taken into custody after a fight.

He was detained on charges including assaulting a public safety officer, resisting arrest, attempting to elude police in a vehicle, two counts each of reckless driving and recklessly endangering another person, and three counts of second-degree criminal mischief. Labart was detained without bail.

No one was injured in the incident.
