Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association are conducting live fire training Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said the training is taking place in the Roseburg and Wilbur area. Pope said smoke may be visible near Old Highway 99 North, North Bank Road, Umpqua College Road and Interstate 5.

This training will take place in a controlled area with preexisting fire trails around the burn site. In addition, extra fire trucks will be waiting to help if needed. Pope said live fire exercises help firefighters practice their suppression skills and helps prepare them for real wildland fire emergencies.
