The Oregon State University Extension Service will offer two preservation workshops in July.
The Fermentation Workshop will take place at Elkton Community Education Center. The class will be July 1st from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and the cost is $25. Those attending will learn to ferment different products. There will be demonstrations of how to make kimchi, kombucha, and sauerkraut. Samples will be available and participants will go home with recipes and inspiration to make new foods to ferment at home.
The Pie Filling Workshop will be held at Pinegrove Community Church at 1729 Buckhorn Road east of Dixonville. The class will run from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a cost of $30. Instructors will teach people how to make canned pie filling so they can preserve their produce this season to enjoy pies year-round. Two different kinds of fruit will be highlighted during this hands-on workshop. Those attending will leave with a jar of both varieties of pie filling and the skills to make more at home.
