Mop up has progressed quickly on the 7K Fire, located ten miles southwest of Veneta, in Lane County.

Natalie Weber of the Oregon Department of Forestry said progress has remained constant, as firefighters pushed forward in the process during Tuesday’s dayshift. Weber said resources assigned to the fire were able to extend mop-up efforts ranging from twenty-five to one hundred feet into the interior of the fire, effectively extinguishing hotspots in those areas and bolstering the fire lines that were created.

Weber said all fires are now one hundred percent lined and mopped up, meaning no heat or smoke has been found anywhere within the individual perimeters. Accurate GPS mapping has found the total of all fires to be 352 acres.

Perkins Peninsula County Park will remain closed to the public until it’s no longer in use by fire resources. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A number of agencies have assisted in putting out the fire including the Douglas Forest Protective Association, Coos Forest Protective Association, the Bureau of Land Management and several other agencies.
