On Thursday it was announced that Kingsley Field in Klamath Falls has been selected to train pilots to fly the F-35A Lightening II Jet.

Congressman Cliff Bentz said he was informed by General David Allvin, Vice Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force regarding the decision. Bentz said since day one of being in Congress, he has made Kingsley Field’s future missions a top priority, including securing the F-35 mission.

Governor Tina Kotek said the plane is the most advanced fighter jet in the world. Kotek said Kingsley Field will be the sole host for the F-35. Kotek said the Air Force’s decision “…affirms the Oregon Military Department’s unwavering commitment to excellence in training and readiness, while providing for the successful future of the Air National Guard and the United States Air Force”.

State Representatives Emily McIntire of Eagle Point and E. Werner Reschke of Klamath Falls, praised the decision. McIntire said the announcement affirms the partnership between the community, the Oregon Air National Guard and the U.S. Force. Reschke said, “This announcement is great news for our community, our state and our nation. I am looking forward to seeing such a revolutionary piece of equipment come to Kingsley Field”.

Kingsley Field is named for Lieutenant David R. Kingsley, an Oregon World War II hero killed in action in June of 1944.
