A passenger was hospitalized after the vehicle they were in was struck and then rolled on Saturday.

A Roseburg Police report said just before 3:10 p.m. officers responded to a crash at the intersection of Northeast Stephens Street and Kenneth Ford Drive.  An 18-year old driver told officers the brakes in his sedan went out which caused him to hit the curb and eventually drive into oncoming traffic. His vehicle struck the side of a pickup, which landed on its side.

Firefighters and officers extracted two people from the pickup. A passenger was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center for further evaluation. Both vehicles were totaled and had to be towed from the scene.

The driver who caused the accident was cited for failure to drive within a lane.
