A Florence woman died in a wreck on Highway 38 Wednesday afternoon.

A report from Oregon State Police said just after 12:00 p.m. troopers responded to the accident eight miles east of Reedsport. A preliminary investigation indicated that the sedan operated by 79-year old Betty Ann Hodges was traveling westbound when her vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons. The vehicle crashed into a tree and came to an uncontrolled rest. Hodges was determined to be deceased at the scene.

The highway was impacted for approximately three hours during the on-scene investigation.

OSP was assisted by the Douglas County Medical Examiners Office, Reedsport Fire Department, Lower Umpqua Ambulance, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
