Saturday night at approximately 6:30 p.m., crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association and Glide Rural Fire Protection District responded to an estimated half-acre fire located in various slash piles and snags, about a half mile north of Rock Creek Road in the Glide area.

DFPA Public Information Officer Rachael Pope said rural responders took immediate action and had the flames knocked down quickly. Pope said the fire was trailed
with twenty percent of mop-up complete by Saturday night. Additional mop-up took place Sunday until the fire was fully contained.

No homes or structures were threatened by the fire.

Pope said residents who have previously burned debris piles this winter or spring are encouraged to go back and check the burned area to ensure that the pile is completely extinguished. If not properly extinguished, old burn piles can smolder for weeks or months before returning to life on a warm windy day.
