Roseburg Police jailed a man after an alleged escape incident on Tuesday.

An RPD report said at 2:30 p.m. 25-year old Joel Oliver was contacted in the 100 block of Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard, as he was a suspect in two prior theft cases. When Oliver got out of his vehicle, he attempted to run, but was caught and held against the car.

The report said when the officer reached for his handcuffs, Oliver pulled away and pushed the officer back. The officer chased Oliver on foot as he ran south on the railroad tracks. The suspect was caught a short distance later and detained. Oliver was found to have a warrant as well.

Charges included resisting arrest, first-degree trespass, second-degree counts of escape and theft, third-degree theft and for a failure to appear warrant. Oliver was detained on $18,750.
