Roseburg Police jailed a woman for allegedly trying to steal a vehicle on Thursday night.

An RPD report said at 11:30 p.m. officers contacted the 43-year old after seeing her in a vehicle in the 1400 block of Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard. The woman claimed she had bought the vehicle from someone who was just down the road.

The report said the officer knew the owner had been jailed for the last several days. The woman said she did not have the keys to the SUV so was using a screwdriver to start it. The officer called a corrections deputy who advised that the owner said he did not give anyone permission to take his car.

The woman was charged with unlawful entry to a motor vehicle and attempted unauthorized use of a vehicle. She was detained without bail.
