Roseburg Police jailed a man following an alleged robbery Tuesday afternoon.

An RPD report said just after 4:00 p.m. officers responded to the 700 block of Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard after a caller said there had been a robbery. The report was that one man allegedly punched another man and then stole his new cell phone.

Officers contacted the victim who said he was texting on his phone when the 35-year old punched him in the chest, causing the victim to drop the phone. The suspect then allegedly picked up the phone and ran to a minivan parked nearby and left the area.

The suspect was located sitting in the minivan at the duck pond and was then detained. He was charged with second-degree theft and third-degree robbery and was held without bail.

Multiple RPD officers along with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident. One lane of eastbound Garden Valley Boulevard was blocked by emergency vehicles in that area for a period of time.
