PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT CLOSING HIGHWAY 99N AT OAKLAND BRIDGE

April 12, 2023 3:30 a.m.

The Douglas County Public Works Department will be closing Old Highway 99N at the Oakland Bridge to all traffic between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday April 18th for a routine bridge inspection.

A County release said northbound traffic will be detoured to Stearns Lane. Southbound traffic will be detoured to Green Valley Road.

The Oakland Bridge is located on Old Highway 99 North, at the northwest end of Oakland where it takes traffic over Calapooya Creek and the Central Oregon and Pacific Railroad.

The Oakland Bridge was built around 1925 and has exceeded its useful lifespan. A new bridge is under construction just north of the existing bridge. Working in partnership with Douglas County, the Oregon Department of Transportation is managing the bridge replacement project and their contractor, Farline Bridge Inc. out of Stayton, Oregon. Construction began in February 2022 and is expected to be completed in the late summer of 2024. For updates on the project, go to www.oaklandoregonbridge.com

The road closure may impact the drive times for those in the area. Motorists are asked to use caution as they travel and utilize the detours in the area. For more information, contact the Douglas County Public Works Department at 440-4481.
