Two people were hospitalized following a two-vehicle wreck north of Winchester on Wednesday morning.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said just before 9:00 a.m. a Roseburg man was headed north on Old Highway 99 North at approximately 55 miles per hour. His vehicle drifted over the center line on a corner and passed a loaded semi-truck. His pickup hit a southbound sedan head-on in the southbound lane. Both vehicles came to rest in a ditch.

Witnesses stated that the pickup passed the semi and another vehicle in a no passing zone, causing the collision. The second driver, a Sutherlin woman, complained of a possible broken ankle and was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center. The first driver was extricated from his vehicle and was later also taken to Mercy.

The report said the driver who caused the accident said he did not remember the collision and it is likely he suffered a medical episode while driving. The vehicles were towed from the scene.
