SPECIAL DISTRICTS ELECTION APPROACHING

April 6, 2023 3:50 a.m.

The 2023 Special Districts Election is approaching.

Douglas County Clerk Daniel Loomis said the county currently has 60 Specials Districts that file with the county and another 10 Special Districts that are shared with other counties. This includes local school districts, community college districts, fire districts, park and recreation districts, sanitary districts, water districts and more.

Loomis said April 25th is the deadline for newly registering Oregon voters while previously registered voters in the state can make updates through Election Day. Ballots are already on their way to voters in the military and those overseas.

Loomis said April 27th the bulk mailing of ballots will occur. The 15-ballot box drop sites around the county will be available from the time the ballots arrive through 8:00 p.m. on Election Day May 16th.

While there are well over 240 different candidates on Douglas County ballots overall, voters will only see the limited contests and candidates for the districts they live in.
